Duke of Edinburgh Award

Available to people 14 - 25 years

We are an 'Access Provider' for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards

We provide for the 'Skills' and 'Service' certificate for bronze, silver and gold

Duke of Edinburgh and Volunteer work days usually 10am - 3.00pm on Wednesdays and 10.30 - 1pm on Saturdays. Participants will learn about wild flower meadows and other conservation projects and be involved in the development of the seven experimental wild flower meadows. Please check notice board for cancellations

The scheme is sponsored by the Heritage Lottery fund

From September 2009 ON Saturdays we will be running a pilot project called NatureWORKS     See projects page

Activities vary but listed below are some of the conservation work you can expect to do

January 2012 NOT Sat 21st Coppicing and other woodland management work. Work on woodland glade meadow. Path clearance. Grass cutting and clearance Seed sewing
February 2012 NOT Sat 4th Willow work. Woodland management. Survey. Ditch Clearance. Clear the Withy bed.  Plant out perennials. Fencing. Log stacking
March 2012 NOT Sat 24th Plant management

 

 

SKILLS:  CONSERVATION - this will include, conservation, meadow making and management (propagation, cultivation, use of machinery, soil management, plant identification, development of wildlife habitats, woodland management)

VOLUNTEERING: ENVIRONMENT - this will include, helping to develop and maintain a conservation area and field study centre and fund raising)
